Drama I - Ensemble Work

Drama I students should reflect on the following questions and post an answer to each one that is at least 100 words (total, not per question) - if you have ten (10) words per sentence, you do the math . . . Please think for yourself and do not parrot anything others have said!

What can you learn from working in an ensemble? Why is it important to learn to work as a team - not just in theatre but elsewhere?

REMEMBER: FIRST NAME, LAST INITIAL ONLY!!

  1. 1. Working in an ensemble can teach you how to not only use words but eye contact to communicate with others. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone and hold a conversation with new people. It also doesn’t matter what class of popularity you are everyone in an ensemble has equal importance.
    2. That saying there is no I in team; it is true for mostly everything. Where is the fun in being a one man or woman play. Everything is much easier when you have a group than if you were to work alone. Working alone can be really stressful, so working in teams reduces the stress level.

  2. From working in an ensemble, you can learn how to work with the whole group in a quick and quiet way. The main thing that you can learn is how to work well with people in a group, even if you don't get along with them. One thing that's important about working in a group, not just in theater, is that in most jobs these days, you have to work quickly and efficiently, regardless of who you are working with. To get the job done, you must put your differences aside for the sake of the more important factor. In the end, group work is one of the most important basic skills you can have. If you work well in a group, you will go far in life

  3. I think working in an ensemble is important because you learn and develop skills for working in a group. In an ensemble you need to cooperate and pay attention to the other people around you. Without using your voice you still need to listen to the other people around you and pick up their subtle signs. Working in an ensemble also helps you learn to fail, no one can do the tasks that we were given perfectly on the first try, you have to practice and learn from your mistakes. You also have to accept the fact that other people make mistakes too. It is important to work as a team in all areas of your life because, unless you are a hermit, you will always have to cooperate and be with people. Without teamwork skills companies and people wont want to work with you.

    1. You can learn many different things from working in an ensemble. You can learn how to work and communicate with other people without just talking, as well as getting along with other people. You can also learn from other people in the group!

2.It is essential to learn communication and group skills because when working in a group, things get done faster and you get input from everyone in the group. In theatre everyone can interact and learn to work well together. In life, group work is important for when you are in school, or when you get a job, or if you volunteer to work somewhere. You may not be working with people you know well, but if you work together as a group you can get the job done fast and get it done right, and maybe meet new friends! :)

  5. 1. By working in an ensemble you can learn about others in your group as well as learning how to work and share your ideas in a group. You can also meet new people and communicate not only with words but with eye contact/ movements. You can learn how to be respectful by listening to others when they are talking/ sharing ideas.

    2. It is important to work in a team because you can get more challenges accomplished and answers more correct. It is also a way to build trust in others. Helping your team mates is another way of building friendship.

  6. 1. When working in an ensemble you are working as a team. When you work in a team, you have to communicate whether its vocally or body language. You learn how to communicate better, share ideas and thoughts, and be a more respectful person. Working in an ensemble allows yourself to be heard but also you to listen to others.
    2. Atleast once in anyone's life there will be a need for team work. When working as a team there is a common goal, and that goal is reached so much more efficiently and quick than working alone. Not only does team work "get the job done" but it also teaches life skills.

  7. The answer to the first question is a lot! I choose this answer because there are many things you can learn! For example, you can learn how to work with a group. Also, how to feel good working with other people. Which, is a VARY good skill to have. Another thing you can learn, would be learning about others. For example, you would learn their strong and weak points which would make is easier to work with them altogether!

To answer the second question, I will start by stating that it's almost impossible to avoid other people on this earth. Because of this, there's a HUGE change that you will need to work with people a lot. Which is a good thing, because when you work with people you can build off your ideas with them and learn. It is also important because in many jobs you will need to work in a team to get a job done. And like the wonder pets i think team work is all around important and that if we want to get anything done we need to learn to work in a team.

  8. 1. I think that you can really learn how to work well with a group of people that you may not know very well in an ensemble. You learn how to communicate with each other and make your teammates look good by bringing your best qualities and helping others find theirs.
    2. In life (most likely) you will always have to work with other people even if you don't like them very much. When you work as a team, things get done quicker and more efficiently. Also, you can use other people's skills to make the ending product even better. If you have people in your team that are all willing to share their talents with the group, whatever you are trying to do will be way better than if you do it on your own. It's good to learn how to do this kind of stuff so that you can use it in every aspect of your life.

  9. 1. Working in a ensemble is important because it builds confidence and you practice expressing yourself with your body movements and words. Along with just getting use to expressing yourself you also get to know other people and learn how they express the same emotions as you.
    2. To get along with other people makes life easier and more enjoyable, or at least thats just my opinion. It's important to work as a team so that things that need to get done get done. As long as everyone has a say and has a chance to express how they feel about the topic. Team work is what keeps the train on the tracks heading the right direction. So as you can see teamwork is helpful in life all around

  11. 1. When your working in an ensemble, you can learn to work and coperate with other people better than you did before. You can also learn to get along with people that you do not normally get along with very well. You can also get creative ideas that you haden't thought of before from the people that you are working with.
    2. It is imprtant to learn to work as a team because it can teach you how to work, and get a long well with other people, witch is a very good thing to know how to do. Knowing how to work well in a group of people can help you a lot in life. Elizabeth L

  12. Working in ensemble takes patience, compromise, flexibity, awareness and concentration. The benefit of working with a team is you can learn alot from their strengths and they can help carry the load. In theater having an ensemble is very important because a production has a lot of jobs and usually not one person can do everything their own. Its also helpful in other situations because as a team you can work together making the best production possible.

  13. Working in an ensemble teaches you many helpful skills when working with groups. It teaches you how to communicate with a group of people quickly and efficiently, and also teaches you how to create a controlled environment. While working in an ensemble I have learned how to communicate with not only words but also eye contact and vibes from my peers.

It is important to work as a team not only in theater but in every day life because teamwork is the most efficient way of getting things done. It is also important to work as a team because in most cases, others have very clever, helpful ideas that will add spice to theater or other assignments.

  14. 1. Ensemble work teaches you how to work with others in new and interesting ways as well as increasing the ones you already know. You learn how to work fast and efficiently in groups with new people. It teaches us people skills. For me personally, it is a great way for myself, a very independent person, to work with others and listen and learn from their ideas and mistakes.

    2. It is important to be able to work in groups because it will help you in the long run. In life, almost everything you do will be with a group or partner of some sort. Developing people and social skills will prepare you to have a successful and enjoyable time in life without so many problems.

  15. 1. By working in a Esemble you can get to know others in your group which helps with building friendship and confidence. It also lets you share ideas with others to get feedback on what they think. I also think that Its good to watch people make mistakes because it makes you feel like you can make a mistake without feeling embarrassed about it.

    2. It is important to work in a group/team because Its good to exchange ideas with people and get different responses to things. It also helps alot with socializing because some people might be really shy but if they are in a group and know everyone pretty well it helps with being talkative and social.

    1-2.)
Working in an ensemble is important because it can help with issues involving our everyday lives. Ensemble means a group, so working in an ensemble just means to work in a group or as a team. As humans we are forced to interact with people everyday, whether it's pitching an idea to a group of peers, or dealing with difficult customers at our work. Having practice in interacting with people can help with each of these situations. Practicing team work can not only help with social skills, but with self confidence as well.

  17. In an ensemble, you can learn how to act trust people. In an ensemble, you get to know a few people at a time and be comfortable around them. It's a great way to make friends and work with people. Getting to know people helps helps establish communication.

It is important to work as a team because in life, you aren't put in solo situations very often. Working in a tem helps with communication and makes it so that no one person is doing all the work.

  19. Working in an ensemble is important because you learn how to work in a group, and become part of a system. It's more than about what you say, it's your body movements, and acting, and sharing the stage with the rest of the ensemble.

I'ts important to work with a team, because by yourself, you're just a moving part, but together with a team, your a part of a much bigger system, working together to reach a common goal.

  20. Working in a ensemble is important life skill because you learn to have trust in others, because if you have no one to have a little trust in, its hard to take the pressures of life. Ensembles work on that skill, because if you don't have a little faith in the others in your group then you work get very far, if you are trying to coordinate the whole play by yourself it gets a little hard to handle and then the play isn't as well resembled ending in a disaster.
Ensembles are suppose to be fun but still making your point, its a good way to learn an important skill and to open up, and not always have the spotlight on you. And possibly getting to know the people you are working with since its such a small group.

  21. Its important to learn to work in ensemble because you need to learn that your not the most important person in the world. Without everyone else you wouldn't really be able to do a show. Its important to learn to work in a team like this because there might be people out there in your school or work place that you really don't like but you have to deal with them. O you need to learn to put your differences aside and work together.

  22. Everyday I get used to waking up to myself and only hearing myself, I find it easy to ignore the outside world. I believe it's important to remember that there are others around me, and working in a group allows me to experiance something besides myself and really hear what is going on around me.

When in theater most of the time a play ins centered around more then one person, and of course this is identical to life aswell. There is never only one person giving, instead its a team effert in wich everyone gets there chance to be seen. This balance is key in order for everyone to feel important, and of course they are. No man gets left behind in theater, this I believe to be very important.

  23. 1. By working in an ensemble helps you to get to know each other and to work together. When your working together it helps you not to leave anyone out. We always need to include everyone so working all together is great thing.

    2. Working in a team is important because like i said you dont want to leave anyone out so working in a team is good. Also because when you are working in a team its not just one person working on something its everyone. You dont want just one person doing the work you want everyone to be helping.

  24. 1. In ensemble work, you learn to connect with people that you dont know very well. By doing different activities, you learn how to work together as a group instead of just yourself. For people that dont usually work in teams, ensemble work will be difficult. ensemble activities are very good to learn especially when your an actor or actress.
    2. it is important to work in an ensemble because you shouldnt just know how to work alone. Knowing how to work in a group is a very important skill because it is needed in many situations, including on stage. If you dont know how to connect with your fellow actors, the project wont be believable. Ensemble work helps you learn how to connect with people you dont know very well yet.

  25. Working in ensemble teaches you to be aware of each other on stage and forces you to get to know your partners, which can be the most difficult thing. It's hard to go outside of the comfort zone sometimes and really open up. Also, it can help you later in life with a job if your used to working/talking with people you don't know.

It's important to work in an ensemble in theater because it teaches you to be aware of other people on stage and how to "use" each other to fully use the time on stage to really impact the audience. If you don't know what your doing, it can really degrade the quality on the skit, and in other situations really impact and slow progress down.

  26. You can learn much from working in an ensemble. When you work in an ensemble, you also learn how to cooperate as a team, and get to know each other's quirks and how they think and act nearly eliminating all shyness (hopefully!)

2.It's also very important to learn to work as a team EVERYWHERE, so you can be a more valuable and vital part of your team, not just the person who sits there and waits so the team can tell them what to do. When you're a more valuable teammate, you can also learn to make more friends, and get more out of all your expiriences overall.

  27. i think that you need an ensemble because it is important to the beauty of the arts.you need to know how to make the person next to you look good. therefore you need to know what their personalitie is like. i also think that an ensemble is important to be good as a group in order to impress your audience and really get a reaction. izze moseley

  28. I think that ensemble work is important because when you try out for a play, or for a sport, you dont know everyone, and yet you try super hard to make sure everyone is paying attention and works together as a team. And not only is that important, but when you work with slightly strangers, you get to know them and let your inner stage star shine!

  30. 1) You can learn how to work with others in a very fun and open way. It's also a lot easier to work with them because its nothing serious, you can be yourself and have fun!
2)It is important for us to work as a team because with out us working together we could not act. It is also important we work as a team else where because we always need team work to incourage us to reach our goals.

learning to work with other people is really hard for alot of Americans. it's so important to learn to work with eachother because without teamwork nothing can be done, nothing will fit, and nobody will be happy. It's importand that we can get stuff done so we can work and do the job that needs to be done such as, working in groups to accomplish fun stuff to do like acting as a goofy clown and not having to fight between eachother about a part they want. It means to me communication. thank you for letting me turn this in.
