Now that you have created a character out of thin air, and subsequently written a scenario involving that character, discuss the following (please number each answer!):
1. What part did you find most challenging about creating the character?
2. How did your group negotiate and compromise on different character traits?
3. With respect to your script, do you think you were able to reveal your character's personality without being too obvious (think about our discussion in class regarding the deep voice/self-conscious character)? Describe two specific ways in which you did, or ways that you could have improved your script to do so.
4. Was it difficult to form a coherent script with characters that had so many "quirks"? Explain why or why not, and how you would shape your character differently if you were to do this again.
1. The part I found most challenging was putting together all the ideas for the character.
ReplyDelete2. My group, we all just agreed on certain ideas that we all thought fit the name of our character.
3. I think I did an ok job with it but I could have done more, but I talk about the trees and I slouch, I also push up my glasses a lot.
4. It was kinda difficult at first. It was hard because of all the different ages and personality types. If I knew what the other characters would be like I would shape my character to fit with theirs more.
1. the thing i thought was most challenging was trying to agree on things to give the characters and traits.
ReplyDelete2. in my group we tried giving the character a personality like our own and giving her traits like ours. it was hard to agree on that stuff!
3. i think i did a pretty good job on being my character because im usually a tomboy so it wasnt really hard to bring my character into place.
4. It was a little difficult at first because there was so much to choose from and we didnt aree on everything but eventually we got the hang of it and created a pretty funny skit.

ReplyDelete1. What I found most challenging about making a character was how to make them stand out without pushing it too much.
2. When we made our character we put a bit of ideas from people we knew in it along with things that we thought would make him stand out. if we didn't agree on something we would go with what the majority of the group liked. All in all, there wasn't much disagreement.
3.I think that I showed my characters traits pretty well, but it was hard because I was "dead" most of the time. I think that I best showed the traits when I asked why we were crying and when I was picking at my fingers.
4. It was pretty hard to make a script due to the fact that it was filled with people that are far from simple because we had to be sure to include parts that showed each character's traits in a good way. If we did this again I would most likely make my character more calm, but still not boring. In the end I think we did pretty well.

ReplyDelete1. The hard part for me was only having a name to work with. I feel like it would have been much more easy to do if I had some lines to start with, because then I could build from there.
2. We started with a broad idea for a character and soon everyone started building on from that.
3. Well, some things I did weren't noticed because of the way we were facing everyone, but i will tell you what I did. When Colleen was throwing a pen, I said "Don't!" because Ben is someone who loves Math. (although i know i wasn't loud so you most likely didn't hear me)
Another thing i did was twitch, although i think that was too obvious. Something i could to better next time is maybe get in more lines so i can show how i act in a conversation.
4.I didn't find it hard at all. My group worked vary fast and we had the main idea of the script in a matter of minutes. Although, something i would do next time is drop a few more hints about my character.
1. The hardest part about creating the character was trying to come up with characteristics that would be challenging to act out.
ReplyDelete2.Our group pretty much all decided to make our character socially awkward, we also all added bits and pieces to him that we all wanted him to be like until he was complete.
3.I think our script showed my characters personality well because he was just standing in the corner of the room alone and sighing, and when the other out going people came by he just clammed up.
4.At first we were planning on making it funny more than making it good, but we later found a good balance between the two. Next time I would try some different strategies toward writing a script, Like adding a little more of our characters real personality.
1) The hardest part about creating the character was finding traits that were big enough to be seen easily and that people would say " hey, Ben has a twitch".
ReplyDelete2)My group picked traits that were fun and you could take anywhere, also i don't know if we knew this when we were picking traits but our character can fit easily into any possible script.
3)The script that we made was good for this activity because it didn't have to show as much of what our character acted like but what they consisted of.
4)The only difficulty I found with making the script is that we had to find a reason for each of our characters to be in that scene. If I was to do this assignment again I would like to see where else we could put these bazaar people in.
1. The most difficult thing i found challenging to create my character is probably try to figure out what kind of things he likes. Also what he looked like and what fit his name and trying to figure out something that can help the class guess who i was.
ReplyDelete2. Well are group all decided what he was going to look like and what his favorite activities and hobbies where. Are group definitely worked together which i am proud of.
3. Yes i was able to reveal my characters personality because my character was outgoing and had OCD. The way i showed those thing is i was very happy and talked to everyone. For OCD i was very concerned when people touch the food and when they moved the bowl out of its place.
4. No it was not hard because we all worked together and made it work. If i could do it again i would definitely try to put more thing that would make you notice that i was my character. But overall i think that are group did really well.

ReplyDeleteReposting Annie's post (after taking it down) because she put her last name . . .
ReplyDelete1.I thought that creating a character that was understandable and unique was the most challenging part. It was hard to combine ideas so that they would complement each other.
2.When my group created character traits we let each person answer one of the questions. After a person wrote down their answer we would talk to each other to make sure the answer made sense.
3.I think that I was able to reveal my characters personality by incorporating her quirks and by fluctuating my voice.
4.I think that incorporating my characters quarks was easy because she had simple quirks that did not effect the conversation. If i were to do this assignment again I would crete a character with more quirks to challenge myself.
1- Unfortunately i was gone during the time where the created the character but if i had been there i would assume the hardest part would be creating a personality out of scratch coming up with someone new rather than something you already know.
ReplyDelete2- By letting each person come up with a trait so it had a bit of personality from each person in the group.
3- Yeah i think we did a good job at portraying the different characters without being obvious about it....
4- I don't think so because when you have that outline you can add on and make it funny or not. you can use the 'quirks' as a advantage.

Well its Rainshine
ReplyDelete1)What i found to be the most difficult part was to show how our characters all met and things about them
2)My group (Linda) just kind of threw stuff out there. the other two members both agreed what they thought of when they heard the name linda (Gown, curlers, slippers, etc.) And from that point we just threw things out there. Like living in the U-hal.
3)Some characteristics were difficult to portray with linda but with the split personality in our group By having her talk to herself.
4) I did find it difficult because of the fact that all the characters were so different from each-other so we would have to find a place for them all to meet up.
1. The most challenging part was finding characteristics that weren't too crazy and could actually be somewhat real.
ReplyDelete2. We just went with what you thought about and pictured when we heard that name. And basically, went off from there.
3. I think that I did but it was hard since not one person can just talk the entire time. But the little things really did work fro me.
4. I think it was easier because it was so specific and I didn't have to make up so much when doing the skit. But there were so many different types of people which makes it very difficult.
1. I thought the most challenging part of making a character was making it able to act out. Sometimes you can make a whole backstory for a person, but not be able to show the audience without being very obvious.
ReplyDelete2. Our group worked together really well when making this character. We all contributed to the person and agreed on most things.
3. It was kind of hard to portray the character without making it obvious. I feel like we could have done better with some of the other characters besides mine in the group and I feel like the script should've been more polished. We made Melissa (2 personalities) interview herself and she was changing back and forth into a policewoman.
4. It was hard to portray ALL of the weird characters, because they are all so complicated and it takes a while for the audience to get to know ONE of them, let alone four characters in five minutes.
1. One of the difficulties were that it was hard to make up a character and have them seem like a real person that could actually exist.
ReplyDelete2.We included all of our different iterests to make a character that related to all of us.
3.in our script I think we protrayed our character when she is talking with her friends meaning she is showing she is social. Another way she protays her character is when she is being sarcastic which we wrote she was. I think we could have made her character have more of a story if we showed her intrests a little more.
4. I actually think that it was better with more quirks, it was harder at the beginning to think of a situation where all these characters would meet. But after we got the situation I found it easier to make the script longer because everybody had their quirks.
1.I think that the most difficult part about creating our characters was trying to pick out good traits from a whole variety of different ones. But that also made it pretty fun.
ReplyDelete2.To negotiate on a certain trait, we wold all come up with one and rule out the ones we liked the least. we all made sure that everybody agreed before moving on to the next one.
3.I think for the most part, we were able to show our characters personalities without being to obvious. Sierra and Chris's little bit really showed how their characters behaved.
4.I think it was pretty hard to write a script because everybody's characters are so defined. It wasn't easy to let everybody shine without upstaging anyone.

1. The hardest part about creating a character, I found was working with others. It's difficult to agree with others on what everyone wants in a character. What I've found is that everyone wants to create a character with mental issues (multiple personality disorder and Tourettes just to name the two I hear the most), who is socially awkward and obnoxious. I feel that because that is what everyone wants, the skit becomes to chaotic and isn't well put together.
ReplyDelete2. When my group came up with our character, Nastasia, we just threw out ideas. Sure, we disagreed with somethings, but I'm just happy it wasn't a full on fight.
3. When I preformed, we were missing two people with quirky characters, with no disrespect, made it easier because I didn't have to worry about an extremely chaotic scene. I felt that I was able to show who my character was by just simply being out there and asking questions that were relevant to my character.
4. It was hard to write a script to show everyone character because everyone was in some way socially awkward, loud and strange. If I was to reshape my character, I wouldn't have her so loud. I would rather show her personality in actions rather than to say them out loud.

1. I beleive the most challenging part about creating a character as a group was trying to sustain a sense of reality. It is too easy to create someone who is very much exagerated to a point that the character is no longer relatable or realistic.
ReplyDelete2. Our group mainly dished out trait, and wich ever one seemed more creative and fun was chosen.
3. I believe our script was just long enough to give the audiance a general idea about our characters; however, the script was limiting and did not have nough depth to portray the "essence" of our characters."
4. I believe that the script has little effect on the portrayal of "quirks". A scrip only guids the sene, but how a person acts without lines also demonstraits "character" non-verbaly. I should think that so long as the actor is confident enough with there role, the audiance will be able to detect them aswell.
Reposting For Chris S., who put his last name down. Shame shame.
ReplyDeletewell writing this for the second time because it deleted itself when i clicked preview... complete bull
1) completing our charactor was easy and efficiant. Considering my group work really well to create Eden into the tomyboy girl she is.
2)choosing traits was easy aswell. Only because we used ones we though where funny and easy to use and describe by acting out.
3)our script we worked on could have been beter but we had people gone for 2 days and its hard with such a short period of time. the longer the beter.
4)it was easy and fun to act out our skit because we could work together with ease. I believe that we could have gone mopre in depth with a story but like I said before the longer the beter
5) I liked this assignment alot but i would like to try in the auditorium some time, I think that would be awsome. Thanks

1. I was difficult for our group to sometimes agree on what traits we wanted to pick. some people wanted it to be a serious person but others wanted it to be a silly, awkward person.
ReplyDelete2. We all kind of found things we thought would be funny and realistic at the same time and shared with the rest of the group.
3. I don't think I expressed my character as much as I could have. Instead of just one line I could have also done some kind of magic show or something, (Because Nastasia was a magician).
4. I think It was hard to fit everyone's character in in just a short 2 minute skit because everyone had so many things about their character and if each character had more lines or a more comfortable time slot, we could have made the skit more clear and polished.
1. i found that trying to agree on things was very difficult, but we mostly said something and if every body liked it, it would become part of are character.
ReplyDelete2. we would say things that we thought would work with are character and than if we all liked it. it went into are characters discription.
3.not really we had a short scene and it mostly involved only 2 people. but i got most of the traits good.
4.Well my character was mostly realistic and very little corks but if she did have a lot I would think it would be hard... and easy at the same time.
1. What I found most challenging about creating this character is the personality traits because identifying a character just based of a name is hard but it was a fun activity to do. 2. My Group negotiated and compromised on different character traits by each having ideas and then deciding which ones we wanted for our character. 3. I think that I was able to reveal my character without being obvious because my character had a twitch so you could tell by my action that I had one. 4. It wasn't difficult to make up a script with characters that has so many unique qualities because we were able to incorporate everyones unique qualities to make a very funny script.
ReplyDelete1) It was hard to find a compromise on the traits of the character with your group. Overall I think my group did a pretty great job on coming up with traits for our person.
ReplyDelete2) My group compromised with the traits of our character by just coming up with ideas on our own. Then from there, we come together as a group and picked traits we all agreed on.
3)I think I did an okay job at revealing my character in an unobvious way, but I do think I could have gone a little bit more in depth with it.
4) I thought it was a little difficult to come up with a scrip because we had to incorporate everyones traits somehow, but we managed to do well.
